Packard and Wisely take home final April weekly honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending April 28.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bryant Packard * Jr. * OF/DH * ECU
Packard hit .550 (11-for-20) in ECU’s 4-1 week, which included its fifth American series win of the year. He tallied multiple hits in four of five games and reached base a total of 15 times. Packard slugged .850 with nine runs scored, five RBIs and a home run. He drove in at least one run in four of five contests and scored in all five games. Packard laced three doubles with three runs scored against UNC Wilmington on Tuesday and had three hits in each of the final two games of the weekend series against Tulane.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Alec Wisely * Sr. * RHP * USF
Wisely combined for 8.2 shutout innings in two starts last week. He scattered eight hits and two walks, while totaling eight strikeouts. The senior righthander tossed 2.0 frames in a 6-1 win at Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday before pitching 6.2 scoreless innings in a 4-3 series-clinching win against Houston Sunday. Wisely struck out three and gave up two hits and no walks in his midweek start against the Eagles. He struck out five and allowed six hits, retiring the side in order in the sixth inning in the series finale against the Cougars.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
Matthew Mika * Sr. * 2B * UCF
Mika hit .538 (7-for-13) in a 3-1 week, including an American series win over Memphis. The senior second baseman slugged .846 with six runs scored, three RBIs, a double and a home run, drawing six walks and swiping four bags on the week. Mika went 3-for-5 with a home run and a walk-off RBI single in the 10th, as the Knights edged Bethune-Cookman, 5-4 Tuesday. He ended the weekend with a 3-for-3 performance and three runs scored in Sunday’s rubber-match win over Memphis.
 
Nick Murray * Fr. * RHP * Cincinnati
Murray made two appearances out of the bullpen, combining for 8.1 innings, scattering one run on three hits and one walk. Murray tossed 6.0 innings in relief in Sunday’s 10-4 victory to earn his third win of the season. He scattered one run on three hits, issuing no walks. He also tossed 2.1 scoreless innings against Eastern Kentucky Wednesday, issuing one walk, while striking out three batters.
 
Jake Kuchmaner * So. * LHP * ECU
Kuchmaner held Tulane’s offense to two runs on six hits in 8.1 innings in an 8-2 series-clinching win Saturday. The southpaw worked into the ninth for the third time this season and struck out six batters while allowing two walks. He fanned at least one batter in five of nine frames, improving to 4-1 this season.
 
Kyle Ouellette * Sr. * DH * Memphis
Ouellette had multiple hits in four games in a 3-2 week, batting .476 (10-for-21) with six RBIs, five runs scored and two doubles. He had three hits in an 18-11 Game 2 midweek series win over North Alabama Wednesday and went 3-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored in Game 2 of a series against UCF Saturday.
 
Hudson Haskin * Fr. * OF * Tulane
Haskin batted .562 and slugged 1.125 with nine hits, five RBIs, three doubles, two home runs and three runs scored. The rookie went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double against Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday. He went 5-for-5 with three RBIs, two doubles and the game-winning two-run homer in the seventh inning in a 9-8 win over No. 11 ECU Sunday.
