UCF’s Williams and Tulane’s Hoese take home weekly baseball honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending April 7.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kody Hoese * Jr. * 3B * Tulane
Hoese had an outstanding week at the plate, batting .579 and slugging 1.316. The junior third baseman tallied 11 hits, nine RBIs, nine runs scored, four home runs, two doubles and drew a pair of walks in a week that included a series win against Wichita State. He had multiple hits and RBIs through all four games last week, including a career-best 5-for-5 performance with three RBIs, two home runs and three runs scored at New Orleans Tuesday night. He registered two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in each of the three games against the Shockers, hitting homers in the first and second game of the series.  
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Chris Williams * R-Sr. * RHP * UCF
Williams pitched 6.1 scoreless innings Saturday in a 5-0 Game 2 win over USF to clinch the series in a rain delay that pushed Saturday night's game to Sunday morning. The righthander recorded his third quality start of the season. He struck out six, while scattering four hits and issuing no walks, retiring the side in order five times.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
AJ Kullman * Sr. * RHP * Cincinnati
Kullman tossed 6.0 innings Friday night in a key 5-4 series-opening win at No. 22 UConn. He struck out four, while scattering one run and six hits, issuing no walks. He retired the side in order twice, earning his first win of the season.
 
Spencer Brickhouse * Jr. * 1B * ECU
Brickhouse slugged .800 through a 3-1 week, which included No. 11 ECU’s third-straight American series win at Houston. Collecting a hit in three of four games, he went 3-for-4 with six RBIs and two home runs (a two-run homer and a grand slam) in a 15-3 win over Houston Saturday. Three of his five hits on the week went for extra bases, as Brickhouse drove in seven runs, batted .333 and scored twice.
 
Lael Lockhart Jr. * Jr. * LHP/DH/OF * Houston
Lockhart tossed 7.2 shutout innings in a 2-0 win over No. 11 ECU to open the series Friday night. He carried a no-hit bid two outs into the fifth inning on the way to snapping ECU’s 10-game winning streak. After a Pirate reached on an error in the top of the first, Lockhart didn't allow a base runner to advance to second base until the eighth inning. In total, he scattered four hits and two walks while recording a pair of strikeouts.
 
Chris Durham * R-Jr. * LHP * Memphis
Durham threw 6.2 innings in a 10-1 series finale victory against Southern, allowing just one run and matching a career-high nine strikeouts. The lefty gave up one walk and seven hits through his outing, retiring 17 of his next 20 batters faced after the opening frame.
 
Luke Ritter * Sr. * 2B * Wichita State
Ritter hit .533 with eight hits, including three doubles and a home run through a 2-2 week. Slugging .933 with a .667 on-base percentage, he posted seven runs scored, four RBIs and four walks. Ritter recorded a hit in all four games, including multiple-hit showings in each game of the Shockers’ weekend series at Tulane. He went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, three runs scored and a double in Friday’s 12-11 extra-innings win—scoring the game-winner in the 11th frame. He extended his reached base safely streak to 44 games dating back to last season.
