Tulane’s Kody Hoese Selected as Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tulane junior third baseman Kody Hoese was named one of 25 semifinalists for the 2019 Golden Spikes Award Wednesday and one of 26 semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy Thursday. Both awards are among the top honors in amateur baseball. 

Entering the final week of the regular season, Hoese currently leads The American with a .403 batting average, producing 85 hits with 19 doubles, 23 home runs, 60 RBIs and 67 runs scored, while slugging .820 with a .496 on-base percentage.

His 23 home runs are currently tied for the most in the country and the most hit in conference history. Hoese also ranks in the top 20 in the country in batting average, home runs per game, slugging percentage, runs per game, hits, runs, doubles and hits per game.
Hoese leads the Green Wave with 26 multi-hit outings and 17 multi-RBI games, holding the mark for the longest hitting streak on the team for a player at 19 games, while reaching base safely in 35 contests this season.
Hoese has twice been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, three times selected to the league’s weekly honor roll, while also being the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week.
Both D1 Baseball and Perfect Game named Hoese to their Midseason All-America lists as a first team selection, as well as being a midseason addition to the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award watch list.

Beginning with the announcement of semifinalists, a ballot will be sent to the Golden Spikes Award voting body consisting of national baseball media, select professional baseball personnel, previous Golden Spikes Award winners and select USA Baseball staff, totaling a group of over 200 voters. From Wednesday, May 15 through Sunday, May 26, each voting member will select three athletes from the Golden Spikes Award ballot of semifinalists and fan voting will simultaneously be open on GoldenSpikesAward.com. Selections made by the voting body will carry a 95% weight of each athlete’s total, while fan votes will account for the remaining 5%.
The finalists will then be announced on Wednesday, May 29. Beginning that same day through Monday, June 10, the voting body and fans will be able to cast their final vote for the Golden Spikes Award winner. The winner of the 42nd Golden Spikes Award will be named on Friday, June 14. The finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy  will be announced on June 6 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and the winner will be unveiled on June 15 in Omaha on the opening day of the College World Series.
