CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2019 American Athletic Conference Women's Rowing Championship has been rescheduled to Friday, May 17, at 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT, in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the US Rowing National High Performance Center.
The 2019 event was originally scheduled for Sunday, but severe weather expected in Oklahoma City over the weekend forced a move to Friday.
Due to the updated championship schedule and its university academic requirements for finals, Sacramento State will be unable to compete in this year's championship.
"We regret that we are unable to conduct our rowing championship this Sunday as scheduled, but the safety of our student-athletes, coaches and fans is the top priority, as it is with all of our championships," said American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco. "The staging of our championship Friday will allow for the safest venue for our student-athletes and provides the best opportunity for adequate racing conditions. We feel badly for the student-athletes of Sacramento State who will not be able to join us this year."
Championship scoring is new for 2019. The conference's team championship and automatic qualifier will be determined by points accrued in the three NCAA events: Varsity 4, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 8. Titles will be awarded in the Third Varsity 8, Second Varsity 4 and Third Varsity 4.
