TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Ksenia Kuznetsova and Rebeka Stolmar were winners in both singles and doubles play Friday as UCF advanced to the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win against Alabama on the campus of Florida State University.
The Knights will face the winner of the first-round match between South Alabama and Florida State Saturday at 5 p.m. ET as UCF looks to become the second American Athletic Conference team in as many years to reach the round of 16 of the NCAA tournament.
Kuznetsova, Stolmar and Nandini Sharma wrapped up their respective singles victories in straight sets after the No. 24-ranked Knights claimed the doubles point with two quick wins.
Kuznetsova paired with Valeriya Zeleva for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles before Kuznetsova cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
Stolmar, who joined Kuznetsova and Zeleva as UCF's all-conference selections, joined American Freshman of the Year Marie Mattel for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles.
Nandini Sharma clinched the match for UCF with a win at No. 6 singles.
The win marks the second straight season in which UCF won its NCAA tournament opener. The Knights defeated Florida International in the first round last year before falling to Miami (Fla.) in the round of 32.
