CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
HOUSTON, Texas – Thursday’s final quarterfinal matchup between No. 3 Houston and No. 6 UConn has been suspended due to severe weather in the Houston area. The Cougars and Huskies will resume play on Friday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT in the top of the fifth inning with two outs and a UConn runner on base. Houston leads 3-2.
The semifinal schedule has also been altered. No. 1 USF and No. 4 Wichita State will meet in the first semifinal at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT, followed by the second semifinal between No. 7 ECU and the Houston/UConn winner at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
UConn jumped on board in the top of the first inning on Olivia Sappington’s sacrifice fly, but Houston responded in the second when Aspen Howie delivered an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Kiwi McDaniel pushed the Huskies ahead when she singled down the left field line to plate a run, but the Cougars again responded, this time with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on Savannah Heebner’s two-run double.
When play resumes Friday afternoon, Presley Bell will be in the circle for Houston with Reese Guevarra on second base and Sappington at the plate.
