IWLCA ALL-AMERICANS
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (FloridaGators.com) – Four University of Florida lacrosse players were named 2019 All-Americans, as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll announced on Wednesday.
Lindsey Ronbeck was tabbed as a First Team All-American, Shannon Kavanagh earned Second Team All-American honors, while Sydney Pirreca and Cara Trombetta were named to the IWLCA Third Team.
The four brings Florida’s all-time total to 20 athletes with 73 All-America honors in the program’s history. Eighteen of those athletes have earned a total of 31 IWLCA All-Americans during the program’s 10-year span.
For Ronbeck, this is the second IWLCA All-American honor of her career. The senior finished the season with 107 points – the most in a single season in program history. She notched 89 goals, 18 assists and 65 draw controls for the Gators during her senior campaign. Ronbeck was named AAC Attacker of the Year, as well as being named an ILWomen Media All-American.
Kavanagh picked up the first All-American honor of her career after finishing her sophomore campaign with 69 goals and 26 assists. She also ranked first on the team in draw controls, winning 93 on the year. For her efforts in the 2019 season, she also earned AAC Midfielder of the Year and ILWomen Media All-American honors.
Trombetta earned the second IWLCA honor of her career for her performance on the defensive side of the field this season. She notched 40 caused turnovers and 45 groundballs on the year, allowing her to pick up AAC Defender of the Year honors as well. Trombetta’s 40 caused turnovers pushed her over the 100-mark in her career and she sits atop Florida’s record books after just three seasons.
Pirreca was named an IWLCA All-American for the second time in her career after she finished the season third on the team in goals (69), points (66) and shots (116). She also was second in assists (25) and fourth in free position goals (11). For her efforts this season, the senior was named First Team All-AAC and earned a spot on the AAC All-Tournament Team.
The Gators finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-7 and went undefeated in the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference. The team swept both the regular season conference championship (ninth-straight) and tournament championship (sixth-straight).
