The American Announces Week One Women’s Soccer Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the first week of the 2019 season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Clarissa Larisey · Jr. · F · Memphis
Clarissa Larisey capped the first week of her junior year with four goals on six shots in two wins. Larisey scored a hat trick in Memphis’ 6-0 shutout against Little Rock to open the season, with her three consecutive goals spanning 3:26 for the first hat trick in program history since 2013. On Sunday, she sealed Memphis’ 3-1 win against Ole Miss by driving coast-to-coast for a score in the waning seconds of the match.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sabrina Wagner · Jr. · D · USF
Sabrina Wagner assisted USF’s game-winner in the 2-1 victory over Auburn, while also playing a major part in the defensive effort in the contest. She played 73 minutes against Florida on Sunday, as the Bulls only allowed two shots on goal and four total shots.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Madison Less · Jr. · GK · Cincinnati
Madison Less opened the season with her ninth career shutout, a 2-0 win against St. John’s. Less followed up the performance with a 10-save game against Virginia Tech, tying her career high and marking her sixth career game with seven or more saves.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mya Jones · Fr. · M · Memphis
Mya Jones made her first two collegiate starts, tallying a pair of assists in Memphis’ 6-0 win against Little Rock on Thursday. She was also pivotal in Memphis’ 3-1 win against Ole Miss. With the game tied at 1-1 in the 88th minute, Jones’ cross in the box was deflected by a Rebel defender into the back of the net for an own goal.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Vanessa DiNardo · So. · F · Cincinnati
Vanessa DiNardo scored both of Cincinnati’s goals in the season-opening win over St. John’s. She found the back of the net on the pair of goals in a school-record 21 second span.
 
Hannah Allred · Jr. · F · SMU
Hannah Allred was prominent in two games for SMU. She scored the game-winning goal against DePaul in the 90th minute with a shot across the box from the right side.
 
Tatum Sutherland · Fr. · GK · SMU
Tatum Sutherland recorded a shutout win over Northwestern in her first collegiate game with three saves before adding seven saves during SMU’s win over DePaul on Sunday.
 
Sydny Nasello · So. · F/M · USF
Sydny Nasello scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining to give USF a season-opening victory over Auburn. Nasello also assisted on the Bulls’ earlier goal in the game.
 
Lucy Roberts · Fr. · D · USF
Lucy Roberts played 90 minutes in both games last week for USF and was a key piece in the defensive effort against Florida as the Bulls only allowed two shots on goal in the contest.
