UCF, Memphis and Tulsa Earn First Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 1.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Gianluca Arcangeli * R-Fr. * M * UCF

Arcangeli made the most of his first weekend, scoring a goal apiece against two ranked opponents. He tallied UCF’s lone goal in the season opener at No. 4 Wake Forest, finding the net in the 89th minute to put the Knights on the board in the 2-1 setback. On Sunday, Arcangeli then opened UCF’s scoring at No. 6 North Carolina, collecting his own rebound on a free kick in the 63rd minute. No. 15 UCF went on to upset the Tar Heels 2-1 in the comeback win.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Ben Roberts * Sr. * D * Memphis
Roberts helped Memphis to a 4-0 shutout of Campbell to open the season on Friday, as the Tigers held the Camels to zero shots. The senior also helped in the offensive effort, scoring the first goal of the contest on a header from a corner kick. Memphis’ defensive performance marked the first time since 2001 a Tiger team has held an opponent scoreless. The Tigers opened the season 1-1 on the weekend.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Bryson Reed * Sr. * Tulsa

Reed backstopped Tulsa to a 1-0 season-opening win against Gonzaga on Friday, making six saves in the complete-game effort. The senior made three saves in each half, keeping the Golden Hurricane’s 14th-minute goal intact for the full 90 minutes.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jovan Prado * Fr. * F/M * Memphis

Prado made an immediate impact for Memphis in his first game, registering a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Campbell. His goal came in the 71st minute, putting the Tigers up 3-0 before assisting on the final goal in the 84th minute.
 
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Jordan Hall * Sr. * F * UConn
Registered both of UConn’s goals in the Huskies’ season-opening win over Rider, converting on two of his three shot attempts
 
Dayonn Harris * R-Sr. * F * UConn
Assisted on both Husky goals on Friday as UConn defeated Rider 2-0 to begin the season
 
Peter Chang * R-Fr. * M * Memphis
Scored his first career goal against Wright State on Sunday, the Tigers’ first goal of the match in a 4-2 setback
 
Gurman Sangha * So. * M/F * Memphis
Tallied a goal in each of Memphis’ games on the opening weekend, including a penalty kick in the 47th minute against Wright State
               
Nicky Hernandez * Jr. * F * SMU
Registered the first multi-goal game of his SMU career, finding the back of the net twice in a 3-0 win over Lipscomb; his first goal came via bicycle kick to put the Mustangs on the board in the 24th minute
