Cincinnati, SMU, Temple, Memphis Players Take Weekly Football Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the fifth week of the 2019 college football season.


 
OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Desmond Ridder • Cincinnati • So. • QB
Ridder threw for 221 yards and four touchdowns, completing 18 of 22 passes in a 52-14 win at Marshall. He added 48 rushing yards to finish with 269 yards of total offense.
 
Shane Buechele • SMU • Jr. • QB • Arlington, Texas
Buechele threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns and had 27 rushing yards with a touchdown in a 48-21 win at USF, keeping SMU unbeaten at 5-0.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Benny Walls • Temple • Sr. • S • Cinnaminson, N.J.
Walls keyed a Temple defense that held Georgia Tech without a touchdown in the Owls’ 24-2 win. Walls had six tackles, a 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown and a 65-yard interception return.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabriel Rogers • Memphis • Jr. • DB • Jackson, Miss.
Rogers had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to spark Memphis’ 35-23 win against Navy. Rogers’ TD came after Navy had taken a 20-7 lead.
 
HONOR ROLL
Gabriel Davis • UCF • Jr. • WR
Had five receptions for 119 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-21 win against UConn.
 
Kendall Futrell • ECU • Sr. • DE
Had seven tackles, 3.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in a 24-21 win at Old Dominion.
 
Patrick Carr • Houston • Jr. • RB
Rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns in a 46-25 win at North Texas.
 
Rodney Clemons • SMU • Sr. • S
Had four tackles, two interceptions and one tackle for loss in a 48-21 win at USF.
 
Re’Mahn Davis • Temple • Fr. • RB
Rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-2 win against Georgia Tech.
