Duncan, Horsfall Lead Volleyball Performers in Week 5

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball honors for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 29.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Megan Duncan * Sr. * OH/RS * Houston

Duncan led all players in The American with 43 total kills in a 2-0 weekend for Houston to open conference play. She added 23 digs and seven blocks to her stat line for the Cougars in a pair of five-set comebacks. Duncan logged 18 kills and 12 digs on Friday night against SMU, helping Houston erase a two sets-to-none deficit to storm back with three straight set wins and claim the match in the conference lid-lifter for 2019. She added 25 kills and 11 digs, along with five block assists, on Sunday to vault the Cougars past Memphis in five sets after trailing 2-1. Behind Duncan’s strong all-around performance, Houston began conference play 2-0 for the first time since the 2013 season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Horsfall * Sr. * DS/L * Tulsa
Horsfall was a force for Tulsa during a 2-0 opening weekend of conference play, leading The American with 69 digs and 7.67 digs per set over nine sets played to earn weekly defensive honors for the second time this season (Sept. 3). Horsfall posted the top defensive performance of the season for any conference player by tallying a 2019 league-high 38 digs in a five-set win against Wichita State on Friday night in Tulsa. She added her second straight 30-dig performance on Sunday with 31 in a four-set triumph over East Carolina. Over her first 15 starts this season, Horsfall leads The American with 5.53 digs per set and ranks second with 315 total digs.
 
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Jordan Thompson * R-Sr. * RS/OH * Cincinnati
Averaged 5.67 kills per set (34 total kills) and added 16 digs in a pair of Cincinnati sweeps to begin conference play; became the program kills leader with career kill number 2,138 in a win over East Carolina on Friday and added 18 kills and six digs in a sweep of Wichita State on Sunday
 
McKenna Melville * So. * OH * UCF
Posted double-digit kills in both matches during a 2-0 weekend for UCF, averaging 5.50 kills per set and hitting at a .333 clip; logged a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of UConn on Friday before adding 18 kills and 13 digs in three sets against Temple on Sunday
 
Sabrina Bianco * So. * S * Memphis
Led Memphis with 114 assists (11.40 assists per set) and chipped in 38 digs in a pair of double-doubles to kick off conference play; registered 54 assists and 21 digs in a five-set showing at Tulane on Friday before closing the weekend with a career-high 60 assists and 17 digs on Sunday at Houston
 
Kayla Dinkins * So. * MH * Tulane
Averaged 1.70 blocks per set and logged 17 total kills in a pair of wins for the week as Tulane opened conference play 2-0; recorded seven block assists and seven kills in a five-set Friday win over Memphis and added two solo blocks, seven block assists and 10 kills in a win over SMU on Sunday

Led USF with 34 digs (5.67 digs per set) as the Bulls began conference play 1-1 last weekend; logged 13 digs and added a service ace in a three-set sweep of Temple on Friday and contributed 21 digs along with an ace on Sunday in a defeat at the hands of UConn
