PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly men’s basketball honors for Jan. 13.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayden Gardner, So., F, ECU
Gardner averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of wins for the Pirates last week. He posted his eighth double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds against USF and recorded his eighth consecutive 20-point game with 20 in a come-from-behind victory over SMU.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Precious Achiuwa, F, Memphis
Achiuwa repeats as Freshman of the Week after posting a pair of double-doubles in a 1-1 week for the Tigers. He now has five consecutive double-doubles after posting 22 points and 12 rebounds at Wichita State before adding 22 points and 11 rebounds in a come-from-behind win at USF.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Trevon Scott, R-Sr., F, Cincinnati
Scott averaged a double-double with 12.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, along with 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists in a pair of wins for the Bearcats.
Christian Vital, Sr., G, UConn
Vital averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as the Huskies defeated Tulane before taking nationally-ranked Wichita State to double overtime.
Kendric Davis, So., G, SMU
Davis averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Mustangs. He had 22 points and seven assists in a win over UCF.
Caleb Mills, Fr., G, Houston
Mills averaged 22.5 points and shot 51.5 percent in a pair of games for the Cougars. He scored 23 in a road win at Temple before dropping 22 at Tulsa on Saturday.
K.J. Lawson, Gr., F, Tulane
Lawson averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assist and 3.0 steals in a 1-1 week for the Green Wave. He had 16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals in a road win at Temple.
