PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field honors for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 12.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Aaron Bienenfeld * Sr. * Cincinnati
Bienenfeld made his season debut at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky, winning the men’s mile with a time of 4:07.17. Bienenfeld’s time was the fastest mile in The American this season and ranks fifth in the NCAA.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Travis Snyder * Freshman * UConn
Snyder picked up a victory in the pole vault at the Harvard Beantown Challenge in Boston in his UConn debut, registering a winning clearance of 5.20m (17-0.75) for the Huskies. Snyder’s effort ranks second in The American and ninth nationally thus far this season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Shian Hyde * Sr. * UCF
Hyde picked up a runner-up result in the 200-meter dash at the Clemson Purple and Orange Elite, clocking the top college time in the event at 23.37. Hyde’s 200-meter dash performance ranks second in the NCAA thus far in the 2020 campaign.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Irati Mitxelena * Sr. * Cincinnati
Mitxelena won the triple jump at the Jim Green Invitational with a victorious attempt of 12.79m (41-11.50) for Cincinnati. Mitxelena’s winning jump leads The American this season and ranks seventh in the nation.
