GAINESVILLE, Fla. (FloridaGators.com) – Two members of the Florida lacrosse team were tabbed as Inside Lacrosse Division I Preseason All-Americans, as the organization announced on Wednesday.
Senior defender Cara Trombetta was named First Team Preseason All-American, while junior midfielder Shannon Kavanagh
earned a spot on the Second Team.
Both athletes are coming off a stellar 2019 season – Trombetta earned IWLCA Third Team All-America honors and Kavanagh received IWLCA Second Team All-America accolades.
Trombetta was named AAC Defender of the Year in 2019, along with a spot on the All-AAC First Team. The Holbrook, N.Y. native currently sits atop the record book with 110 caused turnovers in her career – the first Gator to break the 100 CT milestone.
Kavanagh took home AAC Midfielder of the Year honors in her sophomore campaign, earning a spot on both the All-AAC First Team and AAC All-Tournament Team. The Smithtown, N.Y. native broke two milestones in the 2019 season, becoming Florida’s 12th 100-goal scorer and 16th 100-point scorer.
Trombetta, Kavanagh and the rest of the Gators kick off the season on Feb. 8 with a matchup against Colorado. First draw is set for 12 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
