Highlights
-East Carolina closed out the 2019-20 dual campaign with a road sweep of UMBC in Baltimore. The Pirates claimed the men’s victory in a 174-126 final and added a 171-121 win in women’s competition at the UMBC Aquatic Complex on Saturday. Marek Osina was a double-winner for ECU in the 200 backstroke (1:47.82) and the 200 IM (1:51.24), and Lyubomir Epitropov swept the 100 (:56.45) and 200 (2:03.24) breaststroke events for the Pirates. Rodrigo Romero continued his dominant freshman diving season with wins off the 1-meter (302.02 points) and the 3-meter (309.67 points) boards for ECU. Mariana Vignoli won the 200 freestyle (1:53.68) and 1000 freestyle (10:20.04) for the ECU women, joining Jodi Ogle (200 backstroke, 2:01.13/200 IM, 2:07.58), Shannon Stott (500 freestyle, 5:04.42/200 butterfly, 2:02.95) and Catherine Johnson (50 freestyle, :24.30/100 freestyle, :52.33) as multi-event winners.
-UConn split a dual showdown on Saturday at Villanova, with the Huskies earning a dominant 205-95 win on the men’s side while suffering a 179-119 defeat in women’s action in Philadelphia. North Hansen established a pool record in the 1650 freestyle with a victorious time of 15:46.18, claiming the event by nearly 40 full seconds. Will Kearsey added a top pool mark in the 100 backstroke (:48.80) and the 50 freestyle (:21.18), and Cooper Knapp did the same in the 100 butterfly (:48.87) and 200 butterfly (1:51.06). In women’s racing, Katelyn Walsh was the 100 breaststroke winner for UConn in a time of 1:04.73 and Erin Clifford took the victory off the 3-meter board (273.90 points) and was the runner-up in the 1-meter (262.05 points) event.
-Cincinnati dropped a hard-fought dual meet at Northwestern on Friday night, as the Bearcat men fell to No. 21 Northwestern 167-130 and the Cincinnati women’s squad was on the losing end of a 184-111 decision against the No. 16 Wildcats. Michael Balcerak swept the 100 (:47.63) and 200 butterfly (1:44.98) events on the men’s side for Cincinnati, and Dominic Polling (200 IM, 1:48.33) and Dalton Lillibridge (200 breaststroke, 1:58.17) turned in wins for the Bearcats. Claire Schuermann claimed the win in the 1-meter dive with 272.84 points, placing second off the 3-meter board with 296.03 points in diving action for Cincinnati. Maddie Exton (200 freestyle, 1:49.00) and Lina Kustko (100 butterfly, :53.14) were individual winners for the Bearcat women.
-Houston remained undefeated in dual competition in 2019-20 with a 163.5-136.5 comeback triumph at Arkansas on Friday. Zarena Brown swept the 50 freestyle (:23.54) and 200 freestyle (1:49.16) events for the Cougars, and Laura Laderoute (100 backstroke, :55.13/200 IM, 2:03.86), Ioanna Sacha (200 backstroke, 1:59.38), Peyton Kondis (100 breaststroke, 1:02.88) and Isabel Tank (200 butterfly, 2:05.10) picked up individual wins for Houston.
-SMU secured a thrilling 153-147 dual win over American foe Tulane on Senior Day for the Green Wave Saturday in New Orleans. Felicia Anderson swept the 100 backstroke (:56.19) and 200 backstroke (2:01.09) heats for the Mustangs, while Erin Trahan (100 butterfly, :55.54) and Olivia Grossklaus (200 butterfly, 2:02.68) turned in solo wins for SMU. Nicole Stambo (1-meter, 288.82 points) and Johanna Holloway (3-meter, 296.32 points) claimed part of a diving double for the Mustangs. Kate McDonald was a triple-winner for Tulane in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.28), 200 breaststroke (2:16.68) and 200 IM (2:03.83) events, with Courtney Barker (50 freestyle, :24.02/100 freestyle, :51.98) and Lilly Byrne (200 freestyle, 1:52.48/500 freestyle, 4:57.99) posting double wins for the Green Wave.
