PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field honors for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 26.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Travis Collins * Sr. * Houston
Collins picked up a runner-up result in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.65 at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational. It was the fastest time in the event in The American this season and was tied for 17th nationally.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Damien Berthenet * Sr. * Cincinnati
Berthenet was the top collegiate finisher in the heptathlon at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky. He scored 5,502 points in the competition, the top heptathlon score in The American and the third-highest NCAA output in the event this season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Naomi Taylor * Jr. * Houston
Taylor posted the top 60-meter hurdles time in The American this season as part of a runner-up finish at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational. Her 60-meter hurdles prelim effort of 8.14 leads the conference and is tied for the sixth-fastest time nationally among all athletes.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
DeeNia McMiller * Jr. * Memphis
McMiller swept the weight throw and shot put events at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. Her top distance of 21.84m (71-8) in the weight throw ranks second in The American and fifth in the NCAA this season.
