PROVIDENCE, R.I. – USF junior pitcher Georgina Corrick was one of 50 players named to the
2020 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, as announced by USA Softball on Wednesday night. Corrick, the reigning two-time American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, was the third pitcher representing The American to be included on the preseason USA Softball Watch List in as many seasons, joining Emily Watson from Tulsa in 2018 and Savannah Heebner from Houston in 2019.
The 25 finalists for the 2020 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 22. The top 10 finalists will be announced May 6 and the top 3 announced May 20. The 2020 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed May 26.
Corrick was one of 26 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award in 2019, becoming just the fourth player in the history of The American recognized as a national player of the year finalist. Corrick joined Lindsay Crowdus from Memphis (top 25 in 2017), Shelby Turnier from UCF (top 10 in 2015) and Sara Nevins from USF (top 25 in 2014) as national player of the year finalists representing the conference.
Corrick repeated as The American Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore last season after compiling a 25-6 record, 1.14 ERA and 260 strikeouts, earning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Second-Team honors. Corrick enters 2020 with the second-lowest career ERA in American conference history (1.38 over 385.2 innings pitched) and the eighth-most strikeouts (424) and wins (40) in the league’s all-time record book.
