2020 MLS SUPERDRAFT
 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference saw a record four selections in the first round of the 2020 Major League Soccer Superdraft on Thursday, including two picks in the top 20.
 
SMU's Garrett McLaughlin became just the fifth top 10 pick in the conference's seven-season history upon being selected eighth by the Houston Dynamo. UCF's Cal Jennings was taken 17^th overall by FC Dallas, with UConn's Dayonn Harris going 20^th to Real Salt Lake and Temple's Simon Lefebvre 21^st by DC United.
 
The American earned the second-most first round selections of any conference, trailing only the ACC's eight picks, and saw its highest total since 2015. The first 26 picks made up this year's first round of the Superdraft, with the second round consisting of the following 26.
 
All four first round draftees were named to The American's All-Conference teams this past fall. Jennings earned his second-straight Offensive Player of the Year honor, and joined McLaughlin as a First Team forward. Harris was also placed on the First Team as a midfielder. Lefebvre earned Second Team honors at his goalkeeper position.
 
McLaughlin continues a tradition for two-time conference champion SMU, which has now seen first round picks in the past three years. Lefebvre is the first Temple player ever taken in the Superdraft's first round.
 
UCF's Jonathan Dean was the lone American Athletic Conference player selected in the second round, seeing his name called 39^th overall by Orlando City.
 
The third and fourth rounds of the MLS Superdraft are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13 and will take place via teleconference.
