10.24.20

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Quarterback Brady White threw four more touchdown passes and Memphis' defense forced four tunovers, allowing the Tigers to pull away for a 41-29 win against Temple Saturday afternoon at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

White, who threw six touchdown passes in the Tigers' win against UCF a week earlier, threw for 313 yards on 17-of-36 passing against Temple. Calvin Austin accounted for 184 of those yards on six receptions, including a 65-yard touchdown in the third quarter that gave Memphis the lead for good.

The Tigers trailed 15-10 at halftime, but reeled off 17 straight points in the third quarter as Austin's big play came less than a minute after Riley Patterson had hit a 42-yard field goal. The Tigers forced three turnovers in the that third quarter as Rodney Owens had a pair of interceptions.

Temple finished with the advantage in total yards (500-489) and first downs (30-24), but the Owls were unable to withstand the giveaways and were forced to punt on two fourth-quarter possesions in their comeback bid. Quarterback Anthony Russo threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns, completing 41 of 63 passes, but was intercepted three times.

Temple wide receiver Jadan Blue enjoyed a big day with 13 catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns, while Randle Jones had 12 catches for 118 yards.

Memphis improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in American Athletic Conference play with the win, while Temple fell to 1-2 both overall and in conference play.
