10.05.20

IRVING, Texas – Tulsa, which overcame an early deficit to knock off No. 11 UCF and end the Knights' 21-game home winning streak, has been named as the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Oct. 3 as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.

Tulsa earns the National Team of the Week honor for the first time in the 19-year history of the award and becomes the second American Athletic Conference team to win the award in 2020. Navy was the National Team of the Week Sept. 21.

The Golden Hurricane took a 34-26 decision at the Bounce House in Orlando last Saturday. Playing its second straight game against a team ranked No. 11 nationally, the Golden Hurricane overcame a 23-5 deficit and held the Knights’ potent offense, which had averaged 50 points in the first two games, to three second-half points.

The win was Tulsa’s first against a top-25 opponent since a 62-35 victory against No. 24 Hawaii in the 2010 Hawaii Bowl. QB Zach Smith threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns, while LB Zaven Collins had a team-high 10 tackles to go with 3.5 tackles for loss, an interception, two pass breakups, a quarterback hurry and a safety. P Lachlan Wilson helped Tulsa win the field position battle as he pinned the Knights inside the 4-yard line on each of his three second-half punts.
