Navy's Kinley, Memphis' White Named as Finalists for Campbell Trophy

IRVING, Texas – Navy cornerback Cameron Kinley and Memphis quarterback Brady White have been named as finalists for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda, which is presented to college football’s top scholar-athlete.
 
Kinley and White are among the 12 finalists, spanning all divisions of college football, for the Campbell Trophy. Each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Class presented by Fidelity Investments. The winner of the Campbell Trophy will have his scholarship increased to $25,000.
 
The American Athletic Conference is the only league with two finalists.
 
Candidates for the Campbell Trophy are nominated by their respective schools, must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a grade-point average of at least 3.2, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
 
Kinley has started every game for Navy at cornerback in the past two seasons. He has 25 tackles, one interception and a team-leading six passes defended in 2020 and has career totals of 86 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 13 passes defended. Kinley serves as a captain of Navy’s football team, and also is the president of the Naval Academy’s Class of 2021, becoming the first football player to serve as senior class president in more than 30 years.
 
White is in his third year as Memphis’ starter after transferring from Arizona State and is one of the nation’s leading passers in 2020. He is tied for the national lead among NCAA FBS players with 22 touchdown passes and ranks fifth nationally with 2,128 passing yards in six games. White is third among active FBS players with 9.697 career passing yards. White earned a bachelor’s degree at Arizona State, has already completed a master’s degree program at Memphis and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in liberal studies.
