No. 25 Tulsa Continues Magical Season With Double-OT Win Against Tulane

11.20.20

TULSA, Okla. -- Linebacker Zaven Collins took an interception return 96 yards for a touchdown in double overtime to give No. 25 Tulsa a 30-24 win against Tulane Thursday night in an American Athletic Conference game at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

The Golden Hurricane scored 30 points after the start of the fourth quarter to overcome a 14-0 deficit and move into  a tie for first place in the American Athletic Conference standings at 5-0 in conference play. It was the fourth game this season that Tulsa won after trailing by as many as 14 points.

Tulsa forced overtime on a 37-yard Hail Mary touchdown on the final play of regulation as third-string quarterback Davis Brin hit JuanCarlos Santana in the back of the end zone.

Brin entered the game on Tulsa's last series of the third quarter after Seth Boomer left with a leg injury and gave the Golden Hurricane an immediate spark. After Tulsa' offense was held in check through three quarters, Brin capped a 10-play, 84-yard drive with an 18-yard touchdown run with 9:17 left to put the Hurricane on the board.

Brin tied it for Tulsa with 3:16 left when he hit Josh Johnson for a 19-yard touchdown to make it 14-14. But Tulane answered with a 19-yard TD strike from Michael Pratt to Tyrick James with 1:38 remaining.

Brin, who had seen only limited action in two games prior to Thursday, showed the poise of a veteran on the game-tying drive, twice converting fourth-and-long situations, including the Hail Mary to Santana.

The teams traded field goals in the first overtime period, and Tulane took its possession in the second OT to the Tulsa 3-yard line before Collins stepped in front of a quick slant to the right and took the interception to the end zone to end the game.

It was the latest in a season of big plays for Collins, who leads The American with four interceptions and finished with a game-high 15 tackles against Tulane.

Corey Taylor II rushed for 132 yards on 19 carries for Tulsa, while Santana finished with eight catches for a career-high 138 yards.
