Tulsa's Collins Named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week

11.22.20

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced that Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins has been chosen as the National Defensive Player of the Week for games ending Nov. 21.

Collins delivered the big play in OT — a play being called the “Pick 96” in Tulsa, to give the Golden Hurricane a 30-24 win against Tulane in two overtimes. With Tulane at the 3-yard line on its overtime possession, Collins intercepted a pass at the 4 and broke free for a 96-yard touchdown to end the game, capping a day in which he also had a game-high 15 tackles. It was the second consecutive game in which Collins delivered the clinching interception. Tulsa, which didn’t score in the first three quarters, scored 30 points after the start of the fourth period to improve to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in The American.

Collins is the fifth American Athletic Conference player to earn a Walter Camp national weekly honor this season, joining Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder, Bearcat linebacker Jarell White, UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Memphis signal-caller Brady White.
