12.13.20

IRVING, Texas – Memphis has been selected to face Florida Atlantic in the 2020 Montgomery Bowl.

The Montgomery Bowl will be played Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Cramton Bowl in Montogmery, Alabama. The game will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.

Memphis went 7-3 in the first full season under head coach Ryan Silverfield. The Tigers closed the regular season by winning four of its last five games, including a thrilling 30-27 win against Houston yesterday on a game-winning field goal as time expired.

Memphis will make its 14th appearance in a bowl game and its seventh consecutive postseason appearance. The Tigers look for their first bowl victory since a double-overtime win against BYU in the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl.

The only previous meeting between Memphis and Florida Atlantic was in the 2007 New Orleans Bowl, when the Owls took a 44-27 win.

The Montgomery Bowl will be played for the first time, and what is expected to be the only time in 2020 as it serves as a substitute for the Fenway Bowl, which was slated to debut this year, but was canceled. The Montgomery Bowl  will be played at the historic Cramton Bowl, which opened in 1922 and previously served as a home site for the University of Alabama and the Blue-Gray Football Classic.

The Montgomery Bowl is owned and operated by ESPN Events

Additional bowl selections regarding American Athletic Conference institutions will be announced as they are made final.
