PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field honors for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 16.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Aaron Bienenfeld * Sr. * Cincinnati
Bienenfeld posted the best effort in The American this season in the 5000-meter run, clocking in at 13:48.57 to finish 13th out of 81 competitors in the distance at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington. The effort by Bienenfeld was the 23rd-fastest nationally in the event thus far in 2020.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Antonio Ruiz * Jr. * Houston
Ruiz cleared 5.50m (18-0.5) to win the men’s pole vault at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina. Ruiz’s winning clearance was the top mark posted in The American and ranks 10th nationally this season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Millie Howard * Sr. * Temple
Howard placed ninth overall (fourth collegiate finisher) in the mile at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, crossing the finish line in 4:36.37. Howard ran the fastest mile thus far this season in The American by more than three seconds, and ranks 17th in the distance in the NCAA.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Kennedy Marable * Jr. * Cincinnati
Marable enjoyed a standout showing in the triple jump at the Music City Challenge, winning the event with a jump of 12.97m (42-6.75). It was the top effort by any jumper in The American this season and ranks 25th nationally.
