UCF's Levashova Takes Second Women's Tennis Player of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly men’s and women’s tennis honors for the week-ending February 17.

Levashova went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles as No. 16 UCF won three dual matches last week to improve to 6-2 on the year. Levashova earned straight-set wins in singles in a 4-1 win against UC Santa Barbara and a 4-0 victory against Nebraska, while she added doubles victories against TCU (in a 4-1 win) and Nebraska. Levashova improved to 6-0 in singles play and is a combined 7-1 in doubles with three different partners.

The 2020 American Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will be held in April at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The women’s championship takes place April 15-18, while the men’s championship will be played April 16-19.
 
 
WOMEN’S TENNIS UPDATE
UCF (6-2) is ranked No. 16 in the Feb. 13 Oracle/ITA rankings. The Knights have won their last four matches after picking up three wins last week - a 4-1 victory against TCU, a 4-1 decision against UC Santa Barbara and a 4-0 shutout of Nebraska. Evgeniya Levashova has led the way with a 6-0 dual match record in singles, playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Valeriya Zeleva, the 2019 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, is off to a 5-1 start in singles. UCF hosts Ole Miss Friday in the Knights’ only match this week.
 
Cincinnati (6-3) extended its winning streak to four matches with a 4-3 victory at Middle Tennessee last week, but the Bearcats dropped a 5-2 decision to East Tennessee State to wrap up their trip to Murfeesboro. Maria Santilli remains unbeaten in singles play with a 7-0 mark at the No. 6 spot. Cincinnati returns to the Volunteer State Friday to face Tennessee before the Bearcats visit Indiana Sunday.
 
UConn (2-3) dropped a pair of matches in Philadelphia last week as the Huskies fell 5-2 to Drexel and 4-0 to Temple. UConn is back on the road this week as the Huskies head to upstate New York to visit Cornell (Friday) and Binghamton (Saturday).
 
East Carolina (3-3) won its third straight contest as the Pirates took a 4-3 win at Campbell to start last week, but top-ranked North Carolina ended the streak with a 4-0 decision. Lisa Hofbauer has won her last three singles matches, playing at the No. 1 spot, and was leading the nation’s No. 9-ranked player from North Carolina when the match was ended. The Pirates look to bounce back with two matches this week. East Carolina visits Appalachian State Wednesday before facing William & Mary Friday.
 
Houston (5-3) has won three straight matches after the Cougars took 7-0 wins against Southern and Stephen F. Austin and a 6-1 victory against Brown last week. The Cougars, who are 5-2 at home this season, have two matches at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility this week. Houston hosts LSU Friday and entertains Texas State Sunday.
 
Memphis (4-3) picked up a 4-3 victory against Florida International in what turned out to be its only match of the week after a scheduled contest against Florida Atlantic was canceled due to inclement weather. The Tigers head to Minneapolis this week to face Minnesota (Friday) and Missouri (Saturday).
 
USF (3-4) split a pair of matches last week as the Bulls dropped a 5-2 decision to Florida Gulf Coast and suffered a 7-0 setback to Alabama. The Bulls are idle this week and return to action Feb. 27 at North Texas.
 
SMU (7-1) saw its six-match winning streak to start the year come to an end with a 5-1 setback to LSU, but the Mustangs bounced back to claim a 4-1 win at Tulane. Isabela Tcherkes Zade has mirrored the Mustangs’ team record with a 7-1 mark in both singles and doubles play. SMU will compete this week at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
 
Temple (3-3) won a pair of dual matches last week as the Owls took a 4-2 win against Fordham and a 4-0 victory against UConn, extending their winning streak to three matches. Temple hosts Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday and entertains Long Island Saturday.
 
Tulane (6-3) split a pair of matches last week as the Green Wave took a 5-2 win against Nicholls before dropping a 4-1 decision to SMU. Tulane heads to Wichita for a pair of matches this week, beginning with a Saturday contest against Wichita State. The Green Wave will face UT Arlington Sunday.
 
Tulsa (8-3) split a pair of matches last week as the Golden Hurricane registered a 4-0 win against DePaul, but dropped a 4-2 decision to Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. Tulsa is idle this week and resumes play Feb. 25 at Kansas.
 
Wichita State (1-8) has dropped eight straight after the Shockers fell 5-2 to No. 18 Arizona State and 4-0 to Rice in Tempe, Arizona. The Shockers look for a reversal of fortune with a change in venue as they host Tulane Saturday and UT Arlington Sunday
