Louisville 15, Vanderbilt 13
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — It was a valiant effort for the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team, but the Commodores came up just short to Louisville, 15-13, on Tuesday afternoon.

Trailing 14-10 with nearly eight minutes to go, Vanderbilt (3-2) scored three straight times to get within one with 2:17 to play. But Louisville (3-2) scored at the 1:12 mark to firmly put the game out of reach.

Gwyn Devin and Bri Gross led all Commodore scorers with a hat trick each, with Karlie Bucci and Callie Sundin each adding two goals as well. Gross added three assists to give herself a six-point afternoon.

At intermission, the teams were knotted at 7-7 after a back-and-forth half where the largest lead was two.

Louisville scored seven of the first 10 in the second half to build its lead to four before Vanderbilt’s comeback attempt fell short.

Emily Mathewson’s assist on Gross’ second half goal gave her the 160th point of her career, while Nicki Dadino and Halle Regan each snatched four ground balls.
Vanderbilt returns to action this Sunday at 1 p.m. against Denver.
