PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the seventh consecutive season UConn has earned the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship bracket, finishing off another undefeated conference schedule on Monday night. Each of the 12 members of the American Athletic Conference are set to compete in the 2020 edition of the women’s basketball championship from March 6-9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The winner of the 2020 American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The conference tournament field is based on regular-season standings from games contested in The American, and the top four seeds in the tournament all earn first-round byes.
No. 1 UConn (26-3, 16-0 American) secured its seventh straight regular-season crown in The American on Feb. 19 and capped an undefeated campaign with an 80-39 win over USF on Monday. The Huskies will make their 2020 tournament debut on Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3 against the winner of No. 8 Temple and No. 9 East Carolina.
No. 2 UCF (19-9, 11-5 American) claimed the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament for the second straight season and won its eighth game in nine starts with a 95-50 Senior Night decision against Wichita State on Monday. The Knights, the 2019 tournament runner-up, will take on the winner of No. 7 Wichita State and No. 10 Houston on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3.
No. 3 Cincinnati (20-9, 11-5 American) is seeded third in The American tournament, matching its highest finish as a conference member from 2018-19, following a punctuating 76-53 Senior Night win over East Carolina on Monday. The third-seeded Bearcats will be part of the final game of the day on Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m. (ET), facing either No. 11 Memphis or No. 6 SMU on ESPN3.
No. 4 USF (18-12, 10-6 American) became the fourth seed in The American tournament for the first time after falling 80-39 to top-seeded UConn on Monday night in Hartford, Connecticut. The Bulls, a four-time runner-up in the championship, open the day on Saturday, March 7 at noon (ET) against the winner of No. 12 Tulsa and No. 5 Tulane on ESPN3.
No. 5 Tulane (13-16, 8-8 American) clinched the fifth seed with a 53-50 win over Temple in New Orleans on Monday. The Green Wave takes on No. 12 Tulsa on Friday, March 6 at noon (ET) on ESPN3.
No. 6 SMU (13-15, 7-9 American) slid into the sixth tournament seed following a 69-60 Monday win in Dallas against Memphis. The Mustangs and No. 11 Tigers meet in a rematch on Friday, March 6 at 8 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3.
No. 7 Wichita State (15-14, 7-9 American) locked in the seventh seed in the tournament field following a 95-50 loss at UCF on Monday. The Shockers will face No. 10 Houston on Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3.
No. 8 Temple (15-14, 7-9 American) fell to the No. 8 seed on the heels of a 53-50 defeat at Tulane to close the regular season on Monday night. The Owls and No. 9 East Carolina collide at 2 p.m. (ET) on Friday, March 6 on ESPN3.
No. 9 East Carolina (9-20, 6-10 American) settled into the ninth seed following a 76-53 loss at Cincinnati on Monday. The Pirates and No. 8 Temple are slated to play on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3.
No. 10 Houston (12-18, 5-11 American) is the tournament’s 10th seed after closing the regular season on the wrong side of a 71-64 decision at Tulsa on Monday. The Cougars meet No. 7 seed Wichita State at 6 p.m. (ET) on Friday, March 6 on ESPN3.
No. 11 Memphis (13-16, 4-12 American) enters the tournament as the No. 11 seed following a 69-60 loss at SMU in the final game of the regular season on Monday night. The Tigers will face off with No. 6 seed SMU on Friday, March 6 at 8 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3.
No. 12 Tulsa (9-20, 4-12 American) is set to open the tournament on Friday, March 6 at noon (ET) against No. 5 Tulane on ESPN3.
