IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has named its Executive Board for the 2020-21 school year.
Chris Paul (Houston, Texas), an offensive lineman on the University of Tulsa, has been appointed as The American’s representative to the NCAA Division I SAAC Advisory Committee and will be one of 32 student-athletes (one from each Division I conference) that will report directly to the NCAA Division I Council. He is the first football player from The American to be named to the national SAAC and is the first student-athlete from Tulsa to serve as the conference’s national representative. Paul served as coordinator of community engagement on the SAAC Board in 2019-20.
Matt Kristick (Berlin, Maryland), a senior on the Temple University men’s golf team, has been selected as the SAAC Executive Board’s vice chair. The University of Memphis will be represented by two of its track and field student-athletes as
Adam Neelly (Gallatin, Tennessee), a senior, and junior
Jamaya Fleming (Memphis, Tennessee) will serve as coordinator of student-athlete engagement and coordinator of public relations, respectively.
Katie Power (Kingwood, Texas), a senior on the University of Houston women’s swimming and diving team, has been appointed as coordinator of community engagement, while
Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Maryland), a senior on the University of South Florida softball team, will serve as coordinator of alumni relations.
The American SAAC serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the Conference’s 12 member institutions. The mission of SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school as well as enhance communications between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and American legislations, and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.
