Three From The American Named to FWAA Freshman All-America Team

01.18.21

IRVING, Texas -- Three players from the American Athletic Conference were named to the 2020 Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team Monday.

All three of The American's selections were offensive players - SMU running back Ulysses Bentley IV, Memphis wide receiver Tahj Washington and Tulsa offensive lineman Tyler Smith.

Bentley, who was The American's Rookie of the Year in 2020, led the conference with 913 rushing yards to go with 11 touchdowns.

Washington led all American Athletic Conference freshmen in receiving with 743 yards and six touchdowns on 43 receptions. He led Memphis with 17.3 yards per reception and becomes the fourth Memphis player in five years to achieve Freshman All-America status.

Smith stepped in as Tulsa's starter at left tackle as a redshirt freshman and was one of only three freshmen to be named to The American's all-conference first team.
