IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s volleyball honors, for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 24.
Offensive Player of the Week
Nicole Anderson * So. * OH * Wichita State
Anderson claimed offensive player of the week honors after Wichita State got off to a red-hot 3-0 start. The sophomore outside hitter ranked in the conference top-10 in points per set (3.95, third), kills per set (3.36, fourth), digs per set (3.36, seventh) and hitting percentage (.284, ninth) over the season’s opening weekend, the only American player to claim such standing. Anderson turned in double-doubles against South Dakota on Jan. 22 (13 kills, 11 digs) and Missouri State on Jan. 24 (10 kills, 19 digs), and hit a conference-best .480 in a sweep of Oral Roberts on Jan. 23.
Defensive Player of the Week
Makala Heidelberg * Jr. * OH * Tulane
Heidelberg was a key member of the Tulane lineup in a 2-0 opening weekend, emerging as a defensive anchor for the Green Wave. She averaged 5.50 digs per set (44 total digs) to rank second in The American and tied for 12th in the conference with 0.25 service aces per set. Heidelberg logged 16 digs and a service ace in a road sweep of Southern Mississippi on Jan. 22 before turning in 28 digs and an ace in a five-set thriller against New Orleans on Jan. 23.

Hit an impressive .409 (third in the conference) to go along with 3.28 points per set (eighth) and 1.44 blocks per set (first) for 2-0 USF against North Florida; logged nine kills, two digs and seven total blocks in five sets against UNF on Jan. 22 and added 13 kills and six total blocks on Jan. 23
Bailey Houlihan * Fr. * L * Memphis
Paced The American with 6.00 digs per set in debut weekend for 1-1 Memphis against Southern Illinois; registered 25 digs, eight assists and a service ace in a four-set win on Jan. 22 and added 29 digs and four assists in a five-set defeat Jan. 23
Miray Bolukbasi * Jr. * OH * Temple
Finished with 3.90 points per set (sixth in the conference) and 10 digs in Temple win over Morgan State on Jan. 23; capped double-double with 18 kills for the Owls in season debut
Sam Drewry * Fr. * OH * Memphis
Averaged 4.56 points per set to lead the American and added two double-doubles for 1-1 Memphis; finished with 20 kills and 14 digs in a win over Southern Illinois on Jan. 22 before logging 19 kills and 13 digs in a five-set loss Jan. 23
Lexie Douglas * Sr. * OH * Tulane
Accounted for a pair of double-doubles and 3.81 points per set (seventh in The American) for 2-0 Tulane; had 12 kills and 11 digs at Southern Mississippi on Jan. 22 and 14 kills and 12 digs against New Orleans on Jan. 23
