01.06.21

IRVING, Texas – Memphis quarterback Brady White has been chosen as the winner of the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda as the top scholar-athlete in college football.

White will receive a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship as the Campbell Trophy winner. He will accept the award Thursday as part of the virtual Home Depot College Football Awards program on ESPN and will be recognized with a video tribute during the College Football Playoff National Championship next Monday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

White is the first American Athletic Conference player to win the Campbell Trophy. He joined Navy cornerback Cameron Kinley among the 12 finalists for this year’s award. He is the second player from The American to win a college football national award, following Tulsa’s Zaven Collins, who won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation’s top defensive player.

White completed his third year as Memphis’ starter after transferring from Arizona State and was one of the nation’s leading passers in 2020. He ranked sixth nationally in both passing yards (3,380) and touchdown passes (31) and is third among active FBS players with 10,949 career passing yards. White earned a bachelor’s degree at Arizona State, has already completed a master’s degree program at Memphis and is pursuing a doctorate degree in liberal studies.

To be eligible for the Campbell Trophy, candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.

Each of the 12 finalists receives an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2020 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments with White’s scholarship increased to $25,000 as the winner.

This year will mark the 62nd year of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards, which began in 1959, and the 31st year of the Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda, which was added to the program in 1990.
