UCF, SMU and Tulsa Earn American Men’s Soccer Week Nine Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors, for the week ending Sunday, October 24.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Meinhard * So. * F * Tulsa
Meinhard exploded on the offensive end for No. 11/5 Tulsa in a 5-0 clean sheet at home against Memphis on Oct. 22. Meinhard became the fourth player in conference history, and second this season (UCF’s Alessandro Campos on Sept. 11 against FGCU), to score four goals in a single match, converting four of his seven shots on frame in the win to take over the season lead in The American with 12 goals. Meinhard found the back of the net at 18:36, 46:34, 48:26 (penalty kick) and 60:47 (penalty kick) in the Golden Hurricane shutout.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Brandon Terwege * Gr. * D * SMU
Terwege and the SMU defense turned in an elite performance for the Mustangs in a 4-0 win on the road at South Florida on Oct. 22. SMU limited USF to just two shots on goal in the victory, with no attempts finding the Mustangs goal in the second half. Along with playing 79 minutes of the shutout, Terwege scored his second goal of the season by finishing a Harvey Castro assist at 78:43 to give SMU a 4-0 advantage.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Tyler Lavigne * R-Sr. * GK * UCF
Lavigne turned in an outstanding performance for UCF to pick up his first solo shutout of his career in a 3-0 win at Temple on Oct. 22. Lavigne made three saves in each half to tie a career-high with six stops in the match, helping maintain a lead for the Knights from the fourth minute throughout the remainder of the contest.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kyran Chambron Pinho * Fr. * D * SMU
Chambron Pinho continued a spectacular debut season for SMU, turning in a strong performance on both sides of the pitch in a 4-0 win for the Mustangs at South Florida on Oct. 22. Chambron Pinho jumped into the offensive flow of the game with five shot attempts (four on goal) from the back line in 65 minutes, connecting on the match-winning goal from Knut Ahlander at 59:03 to push the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
 
Weekly Honor Roll

Logged a maximum five points for UCF in a 3-0 shutout at Temple on Oct. 22; assisted on the winning goal at 3:35 and added insurance goals at 38:21 and 46:09 for the Knights
 
Harvey Castro * So. * M * SMU
Recorded a goal and an assist for SMU in a 4-0 win at South Florida on Oct. 22; tallied the third Mustang goal at 65:57 and provided the primary assist on the fourth SMU goal at 78:43 to cap the match’s scoring
