UCF, South Florida, SMU Claim Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer awards for the penultimate week of the regular season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sydny Nasello, Jr., F, South Florida
Nasello scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Cincinnati on Thursday, Oct. 21 to lead the Bulls into first place in the American Athletic Conference standings.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mathilde Kack, Sr., D, UCF
Kack anchored the UCF defense that recorded back-to-back shutouts in wins over East Carolina and Temple. The senior defender led the Bulls to only allowing one shot against Owls on Sunday, Oct. 24.
 
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Samantha Estrada, R-Jr., SMU
Estrada recorded a pair of shutouts this past week in wins over Temple and Tulsa. The redshirt junior made three saves against the Owls and four against the Golden Hurricane.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ariel Young, D, UCF
Young aided the Knights’ defense to shutouts of East Carolina and Tulsa, and scored the game-winning goal against the Pirates.
 
HONOR ROLL
Kristen Scott, Sr., F, UCF
Scott scored two goals and added an assist in the Knights’ 5-0 win over Temple. She had one shot against East Carolina.
 
Haley McWhirter, Fr., M, East Carolina
McWhirter scored the game-winning goal against Memphis on Sunday to propel the Pirates into the American Athletic Conference Championship.
 
Maddie Bowers, R-Fr., F, Houston
Bowers scored the opening goal against Cincinnati on Sunday and assisted on the game-winning goal.
 
Vivianne Bessette, Fr., D, South Florida
In the Bulls’ lone match of the week, Bessette led the defense that only allowed two shots on goal against Cincinnati on Thursday night.
 
Alina Khan, R-So., M/F, SMU
Khan scored two game-winning goals for the Mustangs last week against Temple and Tulsa.
