UCF’s Melville, Houston’s Tullos Take Home Week Nine American Volleyball Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s volleyball honors, for the week ending Sunday, October 24.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
McKenna Melville * Sr. * OH * UCF
Melville turned in an efficient weekend on the attack for 2-0 UCF, leading The American with 7.17 points per set while ranking seventh with a .389 hitting percentage. Melville hit .429 with 22 kills and 10 digs in an impressive conference sweep at SMU on Oct. 22. Melville added 19 kills on .341 hitting and narrowly missed a double-double with eight digs in three sets at Memphis on Oct. 24.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Tullos * Jr. * MB * Houston
Tullos finished third in The American with 1.22 blocks per set in a 1-1 Houston week, which included a top-60 RPI win at Cincinnati. Tullos tallied seven total blocks (one solo) and hit .471 with eight kills in the four-set victory at Cincinnati on Oct. 22. Tullos added four blocks (one solo) in a hard-luck loss in five sets at East Carolina on Oct. 24.

Ranked sixth in The American with 4.00 digs per set and eighth with 4.21 points per set for Cincinnati in a 1-1 week; registered 16 kills and 16 digs against Houston (Oct. 22) and hit .346 with 11 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of Tulane (Oct. 24)
 
Bria’ Merchant * Sr. * L * SMU
Finished third in The American with 4.43 digs for 1-1 SMU; tallied 14 digs and three assists in three sets against UCF (Oct. 22) and contributed 17 digs, two aces and four assists in a four-set win over South Florida (Oct. 24)
 
Lexie Douglas * R-Sr. * OH * Tulane
Placed third in the conference with 5.19 points per set and eighth with a .372 hitting percentage on the road for 1-1 Tulane; hit .468 with 26 kills, five digs and three block assists in a five-set win at East Carolina (Oct. 22)
 
Marta Pecalli * Fr. * L * Tulsa
Paced The American with 6.00 digs per set in a 1-1 week for Tulsa; recorded 29 digs in a four-set defeat against Wichita State (Oct. 20) and turned in 13 digs in a sweep at Temple (Oct. 22)
 
Natalie Foster * Fr. * MB/RS * Wichita State
Hit .351 with 3.56 points per set for unbeaten Wichita State on the road; hit at a .417 clip with 18 kills, three block assists and two digs in a four-set win at Temple (Oct. 24)
