IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer awards for the seventh week of the regular season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Megan Nielsen, Jr., F, Tulsa
Nielsen scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning goal, in a 4-1 win over Temple on Thursday, Sept. 30. It was the Golden Hurricane’s first road conference win since the 2018 season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elisabeth Tse, Fr., D, SMU
Tse aided the Mustang defense to only allowing three shots on goal, while also scoring the opening goal in a 1-1 draw with UCF.
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Caroline DeLisle, R-Jr., UCF
DeLisle recorded a career-high 11 saves in a 1-1 draw at SMU, including nine stops in the second half and overtime.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Haley McWhirter, M, East Carolina
McWhirter scored the opening goal in a 1-1 draw at Cincinnati on Thursday, and also played 69 minutes in the midfield where the Pirates shutout Old Dominion, 1-0, on Sunday, Oct. 3.
HONOR ROLL
Ellie Moreno, Jr., F, UCF
Moreno scored the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw at SMU, tallying in the 81
st minute.
Morgan Dewey, Gr., D, East Carolina
Dewey helped limit Cincinnati to seven shots on goal in a 1-1 draw and aided the Pirates to a 1-0 shutout of Old Dominion, picking up an assist on the lone goal.
Maeve English, So., GK, East Carolina
English made six saves in a 1-1 draw against Cincinnati and followed that up with a five-save clean sheet against Old Dominion.
Zionah Browne, Gr., F, Houston
Browne scored the opening goal in a 1-1 draw at South Florida. She also scored the Cougars’ lone goal against TCU on Sunday.
Sydny Nasello, Jr., F, South Florida
Nasello scored the game-tying goal in the 90
th minute against Houston, drawing a foul in the box and then converting the penalty with 47 seconds remaining in regulation.
