Cincinnati’s Jean And Temple’s McGrath, East Carolina’s Kilsti Named American Golf Players Of The Month For September

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s monthly golf honors, for the competition month ending Thursday, September 30.
 
Men’s Golf Players of the Month
Sam Jean * Jr. * Cincinnati
Jean finished a combined -8 over his first two starts of the 2021-22 season, logging two top-five finishes and one individual victory during the month of September. Jean tied for fifth place to open the season with rounds of 70-74-68=212 (-1) to help the Bearcats claim a team championship at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 5-6 at the Pfau Course in Bloomington, Indiana. Jean kept the momentum rolling at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 26-28 at the University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wisconsin, carding a 73-67-69 showing to finish as the tournament medalist by one stroke at 209 (-7).
 
Conor McGrath * Jr. * Temple
McGrath flew out of the gates with a pair of individual runner-up showings for Temple, shooting a combined 16-under-par and posting a stroke average of 68.40. McGrath established a school record score at the GolfWeek Fall Challenge on Sept. 12-14 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, firing a 67-68-68=203 to finish as the sole runner-up at 13-under-par. During a team victory at the Cornell Invitational on Sept. 19-20 at the Watchung Valley Golf Club in Watchung, New Jersey, McGrath shared second place with rounds of 68-71 to finish at 3-under-par 139.
 
Women’s Golf Player of the Month
Oda Sofi Kilsti * Jr. * East Carolina
Kilsti finished in the top 10 in both of her September starts, nabbing an impressive individual win to cap the month. Kilsti shared sixth place at the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Sept. 12-14 at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club on Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, logging a three-round score of 74-67-72 close at even par 213. Kilsti led wire-to-wire later in the month at the ECU Pirate Classic on Sept. 20-21 at the Greenville Country Club, finishing as the only player under par and coasting to a five-stroke win with scores of 68-68-76=212 to post 4-under-par.
