IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors, for the week ending Sunday, October 31.
Offensive Player of the Week
Skage Simonsen * Sr. * M * SMU
Simonsen picked the perfect time to open his season goal account for SMU, posting a hat trick during a 5-0 clean sheet victory at UCF on Oct. 31. Simonsen scored on all three of his shots on goal after attempting a match-high total six shots on the night. Simonsen logged the match-winner at 22:29 and added a pair of second-half insurance goals at 59:13 and 83:51 to help defeat the Knights.
Defensive Player of the Week
Brandon Terwege * Gr. * D * SMU
Terwege and the SMU defense continued a recent run of solid play in a 1-0-1 week that included a scoreless draw with American regular-season champion Tulsa on Oct. 27 and a 5-0 rout at UCF on Oct. 31. The Mustangs limited two of the best offenses in the country to seven total shots on frame in a pair of shutouts, with UCF managing only one attempt on goal.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Cole Johnson * So. * GK * SMU
Johnson fashioned a pair of clean sheets for SMU in an unbeaten conference week, battling No. 8/5 Tulsa to a 0-0 draw on Oct. 27 and keeping the dangerous UCF offense off the board in a 5-0 win in Oct. 31. Johnson made six saves in the contest, including a pair of stops in the overtime periods, to earn the draw with Tulsa. Johnson turned aside the lone UCF shot on goal during the first half to blank the Knights.
Rookie of the Week
Mads Westergren * Fr. * D * SMU
Westergren shined for SMU in two starts during the week, going the distance in the scoreless draw with No. 8/5 Tulsa on Oct. 27 before jumping in on the offensive end of a 5-0 shutout of UCF on Oct. 31. Westergren turned in 68 minutes on the Mustang back line and served the primary assist on Skage Simonsen’s match-winning goal in the 23rd minute.

Turned in two impressive performances on defense in a 1-0-1 South Florida week; the Bulls held Memphis to just four shots on goal in a 0-0 draw on Oct. 31

Made seven total saves in the South Florida goal in an unbeaten week; made three saves in a thrilling 4-3 win over UCF on Oct. 27 and logged four saves in a shutout draw against Memphis on Oct. 31

Led The American with 10 saves on the week in one-goal matches against Memphis and No. 8/5 Tulsa; credited with five saves at Memphis on Oct. 27 and made five stops at home against conference leader Tulsa on Oct. 31
Austen Schweinert * Sr. * F * Tulsa
Attempted seven shots (five on goal) and posted three points for No. 8/5 Tulsa in a 1-0-1 week; recorded four shots (two on goal) in a scoreless draw at SMU on Oct. 27 and added a goal and the match-winning assist to clinch the top seed in The American in a win at Temple on Oct. 31
