UCF’s Melville, SMU’s Merchant Pick Up Volleyball Awards In Week 13

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s volleyball honors, for the week ending Sunday, November 21.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
McKenna Melville * Sr. * OH * UCF
Melville’s dominant senior season rolled along for UCF as the Knights pushed their winning streak to 13 matches and clinched the outright 2021 American Volleyball Championship in a 2-0 week. Melville paced the conference with 6.00 points per set, ranked fourth with a .491 hitting percentage and was sixth with 1.33 blocks per set in two sweeps. Melville hit an even .600 with 21 kills, six digs and four block assists in a sweep of rival South Florida on Nov. 17 and logged 10 kills, 11 digs and four block assists in three sets against Temple on Nov. 19.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Bria’ Merchant * Sr. * L * SMU
Merchant was a standout on the defensive end for 2-0 SMU, whose week was highlighted by ending Houston’s seven-match winning streak. Merchant ranked second in The American for the week with 6.57 digs per set and logged 1.29 assists per frame. Merchant fashioned 20 digs and four assists in a home sweep of Tulane on Nov. 19 before posting 26 digs and five helpers in a four-set win over Houston on Nov. 21.

Hit a sizzling .769 with a conference-high 2.00 blocks per set as 2-0 UCF clinched The American championship; recorded kills on all seven attacks and turned in five block assists in a sweep of Temple (Nov. 19)

Ranked second in The American with a .606 hitting percentage in a 2-0 Cincinnati week; hit .833 with 10 kills and two block assists against Wichita State (Nov. 19) and logged 12 kills in a five-set win over Tulsa (Nov. 21)
 
Kate Georgiades * So. * L * Houston
Led The American with 7.29 digs per set as Houston split a pair of matches last week; 36 digs in a four-set defeat at the hands of SMU (Nov. 21) established a program record in a four-set match
 
Maggie Hembree * Grad * MB * Tulsa
Placed third in The American with a .500 hitting percentage and scored 3.50 points per set for 1-1 Tulsa; hit .586 with 18 kills and six total blocks (one solo) in a five-set win at East Carolina (Nov. 19)
 
Brylee Kelly * R-So. * OH * Wichita State
Scored 5.50 points per set to rank second in The American in a 1-1 Wichita State showing; hit .344 with 29 kills, three service aces and five kills in a four-set win at East Carolina (Nov. 21)
