IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors, for the week ending Friday, November 5.
Offensive Players of the Week
Maxi Galizzi * Sr. * F * Memphis
Galizzi turned in a sensational performance in the regular-season finale for Memphis at SMU on Nov. 5, helping the Tigers lock down the No. 3 seed in the 2021 American Men’s Soccer Championship with a convincing 4-1 road victory. All four of Galizzi’s shot attempts on the night were on goal and he bagged a brace in just under a four-minute span in the first half. Galizzi scored the match-winner at 18:58 to push Memphis in front of SMU 2-1 before adding an insurance goal at 22:23 to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage over the Mustangs.
Henrique Gallina * Jr. * M * South Florida
Gallina was an offensive force for South Florida in a 3-1 win to close the season against Temple on Nov. 5, posting his second two-goal performance of the year. Gallina attempted eight shots on the night, with seven finding the target, in 78 minutes of play. Gallina opened the USF scoring just 3:04 into the match to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Gallina later added the third and final USF goal when he connected unassisted at 60:38.
Defensive Player of the Week
Henry Sach * Sr. * M/D * Tulsa
Sach played a central role in the defense for No. 5/6 Tulsa in the season finale with UCF, helping stymie the high-powered Knights offense and adding the match-winning goal in a 2-1 victory on Nov. 5. Tulsa held UCF to only two shots on goal during the contest, including just one over the final 80 minutes of play, against one of the top-15 offenses in the nation. Sach also found his second goal of the season during the match, capping a Tulsa rally with a successful penalty at 59:55 to log the second Golden Hurricane goal in just over three minutes and give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Parker Lackland * Sr. * GK * Memphis
Lackland turned in a signature performance to close the regular season against a talented SMU offense, holding the Mustangs in check in a 4-1 road win on Nov. 5 to lock up the third seed in the conference tournament for Memphis. Lackland matched a season-high with six saves in the victory, turning aside four shots in the first half and two in the second to neutralize an SMU goal that was scored just 1:55 into the contest.
