East Carolina's Jackson, SMU's Phelps Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the fifth week of the season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Vance Jackson, Sr., F, East Carolina
Jackson recorded a season-high 23 points, eight rebounds and two assists in a win over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. Jackson becomes the first student-athlete to earn a weekly honor in The American from two different schools after earning Freshman of the Week honors twice while at UConn during the 2016-17 season.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Zhuric Phelps, G, SMU
Phelps aided the Mustangs to a win over Dayton on Wednesday with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting while also two assists and two rebounds.
 
HONOR ROLL
Darin Green Jr., Jr., G, UCF
Green posted 18 points, including four 3-point field goals, with three rebounds in a win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
 
Marcus Sasser, Jr., G, Houston
Sasser averaged 21.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals as the Cougars went 1-1 last week. The junior guard had seven steals against Alcorn State on Monday, while posting 25 points at Alabama on Saturday night.
 
Kendric Davis, Sr., G, SMU
Davis scored 19 points and recorded five assists, three steals and three rebounds in a win over Dayton on Wednesday.
 
Sam Griffin, So., G, Tulsa
Griffin averaged 18.0 points, 1.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Hurricane.
 
Morris Udeze, Jr., F, Wichita State
Udeze recorded 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the Shockers’ win over Norfolk State on Saturday.
