Wichita State's Etienne, Tulane's Pope Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the 10th week of the 2020-21 season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyson Etienne, So., Guard, Wichita State
Etienne led the Shockers to an overtime win over UCF on Jan. 30 with 29 points, three assists and two rebounds. The sophomore guard hit five 3-point field goals and recorded 21 points after halftime.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tylan Pope, Forward, Tulane
Pope averaged 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 56.3 percent in a 1-1 week for the Green Wave. The freshman forward recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in a road win at Temple on Jan. 31.
 
HONOR ROLL
Jayden Gardner, Jr., Forward, East Carolina
Gardner averaged 24.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 61.8 percent from the field in two games for the Pirates.
 
Cameron Tyson, R-So., Guard, Houston
Tyson had a breakout game at Tulane on Jan. 28 with 31 points, including nine 3-pointers. The redshirt-sophomore guard averaged 18.0 points for the week.
 
DeAndre Williams, Jr., Forward, Memphis
Williams averaged 13.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Tigers split a pair of games against SMU last week.
 
Jaylen Forbes, So., G, Tulane
Forbes averaged 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Green Wave. The sophomore guard recorded 23 points and eight rebounds in a win at Temple.
 
Rey Idowu, Jr., Forward, Tulsa
Idowu shot 66.7 percent from the field and averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Hurricane.
