Cincinnati, Houston, SMU Each Represented In Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s and women’s indoor track and field honors, for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 14.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Aaron Bienenfeld * Sr. * Cincinnati
Fresh off a third-place showing at the American Cross Country Championships, Bienenfeld shined for Cincinnati in his season indoor debut in the 3000-meter run at the H-Town SpeedCity Series III on Feb. 13. Bienenfeld ran the fastest time in The American this season by over three seconds at 7:50.73 and ranked sixth in the country in the event as of Feb. 16.
 
Men’s Field Athletes of the Week
Austin Goolsby * Jr. * Cincinnati
Goolsby tied for the best showing in the pole vault at the H-Town SpeedCity Series III on Feb. 13, clearing a mark of 5.08m (16-8.00). It was the second best clearance in the conference this season and ranked 43rd in the NCAA as of Feb. 16.
 
Ben Percefull * Sr. * Houston
Percefull equaled Austin Goolsby of Cincinnati in the pole vault during the H-Town SpeedCity Series III, with a top pole vault clearance of 5.08m (16-8.00). Percefull shared second in The American and 43rd nationally in the event as of Feb. 16.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Ellie Leather * Sr. * Cincinnati
Leather carried over a strong American Cross Country Championships performance to the mile run at the H-Town SpeedCity Series III on Feb. 13, logging a top conference time of 4:43.32. The performance by Leather ranked 41st in the NCAA as of Feb. 16.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Funminiyi Olajide * Fr. * SMU
Olajide continued a strong freshman season in the long jump during competition at the H-Town SpeedCity Series III, placing first with an attempt of 6.16m. The winning jump ranked second in the conference this season, behind a previous Olajide jump earlier in the year, and was among the top-25 jumps in the nation.
