Vanderbilt, Temple, ODU Players Take Weekly Women's Lacrosse Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly women’s lacrosse honors for the week-ending February 28.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ATTACK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elizabeth Scarrone • A • Sr. • Vanderbilt • Rumson, N.J.

Scarrone scored seven goals in two games in a 1-1 week, leading the Commodores in scoring in both contests. She had a game-high five goals with a ground ball and two draw controls in a 16-10 win against Central Michigan, scoring a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to break open what had been a one-goal game. She added a pair of goals in the first half of a 17-6 setback to No. 1 North Carolina and added two draw controls against the Tar Heels.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Belle Mastropietro • M • So. • Temple • Springfield, Pa.

Mastropietro repeats as The American’s Midfielder of the Week after she scored a game-high six goals with an assist for seven points in Temple’s 17-2 win against Villanova. She scored five goals in the first half to help the Owls build a 13-0 first-half lead. Mastropietro added a game-high six draw controls in the win to help the Owls finish with a 34-11 advantage in shots. 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Taylor • D • Sr. • Temple • Chalfont, Pa.

Taylor led Temple to one of its best defensive performances in decades as the Owls limited Villanova to two goals and 11 shots in a 17-2 win against the Wildcats. Taylor finished with team highs of three ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead a defensive unit that held Villanova without a goal for the first 33:48 of the game, by which time the Owls had built a 13-0 lead.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Haley O’Connor • A • Fr. • Old Dominion • Ipswich, Mass.

O’Connor scored a game-high three goals and added an assist for her first career hat trick in the Monarchs’ 14-13 win against Longwood. She added an assist in a 19-11 setback to William & Mary earlier in the week, giving her five points in two games.

Scored five goals with an assist in a 20-8 win against Campbell and added a goal in a 16-4 loss to Duke.

Had two goals, an assist, seven shots, two ground balls, seven draw controls and a caused turnover in two games.
 
Maria Rekus • D • Fr. • Old Dominion • Eldersburg, Md.
Picked up five ground balls and had six caused turnovers in a 1-1 week. Had four caused turnovers in a 14-13 win against Longwood.
 
Meghan Hoffman • A • Sr. • Temple • Fallston, Md.
Scored four goals with an assist in a 17-2 win against Villanova.
 
Bri Gross • M • Jr. • Vanderbilt • El Dorado Hills, Calif.
Had a goal, two assists, six draw controls and a caused turnover in a 16-10 win against Central Michigan. Added three draw controls in a 17-6 loss to No. 1 North Carolina.
