IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Connor Norby, So., 2B, East Carolina
Norby led the Pirates to four wins last week, including a sweep of Charlotte and a midweek win at Duke, by batting .412 (7-17) with three runs scored on three home runs with seven runs driven in. The sophomore hit a three-run home run that broke a 5-5 tie against the Blue Devils.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Carson Whisenhunt, Fr., LHP, East Carolina
Whisenhunt earned the win in a 3-1 win over Charlotte with 7.0 innings pitched and only allowing three hits and two walks while recording 10 strikeouts.
HONOR ROLL
Jordan Rathbone, R-Sr., UTL, UCF
Rathbone hit .462 (6-13) with five runs scored, two home runs and five runs driven in as the Knights went 3-1 against North Florida last week.
Wyatt Stapp, Sr., INF, Cincinnati
Stapp hit .600 from the plate (6-10) with three runs scored, a double, a home run and four runs driven in during the Bearcats’ sweep over Western Michigan.
Ryan Hernandez, Jr., 1B, Houston
Hernandez aided the Cougars to a 3-1 week by hitting .529 (9-17) with four runs scored, a double, two home runs and eight runs driven in.
Frankie Niemann, R-Jr., C, Tulane
Niemann hit .417 (5-12) with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run and seven runs driven in as Tulane went 3-1 last week.
Ryan Stuempfig, R-So., RHP, Wichita State
Stuempfig shut down No. 13 Arizona with three scoreless innings in relief and picked up the win. The redshirt sophomore struck out two and allowed only two hits after the Wildcats had scored nine runs in four innings.
