SMU’s Jacobs, UCF’s Moravec Take Week Eight American Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s volleyball honors, for the week ending Sunday, March 14.

Offensive Player of the Week
Hannah Jacobs * Jr. * OH * SMU
Jacobs was an offensive force in a series sweep of Tulsa, helping 2-0 SMU take down the Golden Hurricane in straight sets. She averaged 5.75 points per set to rank second and hit .339 to rank eighth in The American for the week. Jacobs hit. 308 with 19 kills, four digs and three block assists in a three-set win over Tulsa on March 12. She closed the series hitting .391 with 13 kills in a sweep of the Golden Hurricane on March 13.

Defensive Player of the Week
Nerissa Moravec * R-Sr. * MB * UCF
Moravec was the top shot blocker in The American for the week, averaging 2.17 blocks per set in just six frames played against Cincinnati to help 2-0 UCF clinch the top seed in the East Division. Moravec added 3.58 points per set during the series sweep. She registered 11 block assists and hit .727 with eight kills in a three-set victory in match two against the Bearcats on March 13.

Paced The American with 6.33 digs per set for SMU in two home sweeps of Tulsa; logged 21 digs in a match one win on March 12 before finishing with 17 digs against the Golden Hurricane in match two on March 13
 
Kayla Dinkins * Jr. * MH * Tulane
Hit .367 and scored 3.61 points per set for 2-0 Tulane in a home sweep of Wichita State; hit .350 with 10 kills and six block assists in match one on March 12 and .379 with 15 kills in five sets on March 13
 
Bri Wood * Sr. * RS * East Carolina
Ranked sixth in The American with 4.14 points per set and notched two double-doubles for East Carolina in a series split with Temple; hit .360 with 14 digs in a sweep of the Owls on March 12
 
Abbie Jackson * So. * OH * Houston
Led The American with 6.38 points per set in a sweep of Memphis for West Division top seed Houston; hit .280 with 26 kills and 17 digs in a five-set comeback in match one against the Tigers on March 12
