IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s golf players of the week, for the week ending Tuesday, March 16.
Men’s Golf Player of the Week
Mac Meissner * Jr. * SMU
Meissner was the top SMU individual finisher in a loaded field at the Valspar Collegiate on March 15-16 at the Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Florida. In a field that featured nine top-40 teams and 18 top-100 ranked individuals in the latest GolfStat rankings, Meissner tied for fourth place at 6-under-par 207 with rounds of 67-69-71 on the par-71, 6,921-yard layout. He was one of just five golfers in the 63-player field to shoot par or better in all three rounds, and one of six players to shoot multiple sub-60 rounds. Meissner was tied with teammate Noah Goodwin for the tournament lead in par-5 stroke average (4.33, -8) and poured in 14 total birdies for the week.
Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Anne Normann * Fr. * Houston
Norman earned his first weekly conference honor following a standout showing at the Clover Cup on March 12-14 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. Normann claimed a share of seventh place and defeated five GolfStat Top-100 players with rounds of 70-73-69=212 (-4) on the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow layout. She bettered the course stroke average in all three rounds and was among the tournament top 10 in par-4 (3.93, -2, seventh) and par-5 (4.58, -5, sixth) stroke average. Normann also recorded 15 birdies for the week, tied for the third most in the 70-player tournament field.
