Memphis' Wimberley, USF's Lane Earn Baseball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carmine Lane, R-Fr., OF, USF
Lane helped lead the Bulls to a series win over Florida Atlantic and hit .462 for the week with five runs scored, six hits, including a double and home run and drove in five runs. The redshirt freshman hit a two-run home run that were the deciding runs in a 4-0 win on Saturday, March 20.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Blake Wimberley, R-Fr., RHP, Memphis
Wimberley tossed a complete-game shutout for the Tigers in a 1-0 win over Middle Tennessee on Friday, March 19. The redshirt freshman struck out a career-high 12 batters and only allowed three hits and a pair of walks. Wimberley faced only three over the minimum.
 
HONOR ROLL
AJ Jones, Sr., RHP, UCF
Jones earned the win in the Knights’ series-clinching victory against Jacksonville on Sunday, March 21 with 5.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
 
Ben McCabe, So., C, UCF
McCabe hit .313 (5-16) with four runs scored, a double, three home runs and six runs driven in four games for the Knights.
 
Thomas Francisco, So., OF/INF, East Carolina
Francisco hit .467 (7-15) with five runs, two home runs and six runs driven in as the Pirates went 3-1 last week, including a sweep of Illinois State.
 
Taylor Howell, Fr., C/UTL, Memphis
Howell hit .455 (5-11) with three runs a double, two home runs and four RBI in the Tigers’ 3-1 series win over Middle Tennessee.
 
Garrett Kocis, Jr., INF, Wichita State
Kocis led the Shockers with a .429 (6-14) batting average, five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and six runs driven in a four-game road trip in Florida.
