Athletes From Houston, Memphis And Tulane Recognized In Season’s First Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s outdoor track & field honors, for the week ending Sunday, March 21.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Shaun Maswanganyi * Fr. * Houston

Maswanganyi ran a blazing 100-meter dash time of 10.18 in a victorious effort at the Cougar Spring Break meet on March 18 in Houston. Maswanganyi’s time, along with leading The American, was the second-fastest time in the event in the nation.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Adam Neelly * Gr. * Memphis
Neelly posted top conference throws in the shot put (17.47m, 57-3.75) and the discus (57.86m, 189-10) to power Memphis at the Rhodes Invitational to open the season on March 19. Neelly ranked fourth nationally in the discus and 24th in the shot put following his season debut.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Naomi Taylor * Sr. * Houston

Taylor cruised across the finish line in the 100-meter hurdles with a victorious time of 13.30 at the USTA Invitational on March 18. Taylor’s time paced The American and ranked sixth in the NCAA.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Trina Malej * Jr. * Tulane
Malej enjoyed a standout showing in the triple jump for Tulane at the UCF Black and Gold Invite on March 19, logging a top attempt of 13.12m (43-0.5) to win the flight. Malej’s attempt ranked first in The American and third in the NCAA.
