IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly women’s lacrosse honors for the week-ending March 28.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ATTACK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabby Fornia • Sr. • Vanderbilt • Mount Laurel, N.J.
Fornia enjoyed a record-setting weekend in the Commodores’ series sweep at East Carolina to extend Vanderbilt’s winning streak to seven games. She had two goals and an assist in Friday’s 19-12 victory to open the weekend, while she followed with three goals and an American Athletic Conference-record nine assists for a league-record 12 points in Sunday’s 14-12 win. Fornia’s nine assists Sunday broke her own single-game record of seven helpers, while her 12 points broke the old mark of 11 set by Cincinnati’s Monica Borzillo earlier this season. Fornia has 13 goals and a league-leading 35 assists for 48 points this season.

Kavanagh helped No. 12/11 Florida to a pair of conference wins as the Gators outscored Cincinnati by a 39-8 margin in two games. Kavanagh scored a league-best eight goals in the weekend series as she finished with four goals and six draw controls in Friday’s 20-3 win and had four goals with an assist in Sunday’s 19-5 decision. Kavanagh leads The American with 32 goals and is the league leader in points per game (32g, 8a, 40p, 4.44 ppg).

Trombetta lead a Florida close defense that limited Cincinnati to a combined eight goals, 31 shots and eight free position shots in a pair of American Athletic Conference wins as the Gators improved to 4-0 in conference play. She finished with two ground balls and a caused turnover in each of the two games, a 20-3 win Friday and a 19-5 victory Sunday, and limited the Bearcats’ leading point scorer to two goals in the series. Trombetta continues to lead the Gators with 27 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in 2021.

Reznick registered a league-leading .722 save percentage and allowed a combined five goals as the Gators scored a pair of conference wins against Cincinnati. She made four saves, allowing two goals in 45 minutes of a 20-3 win Friday and made nine stops with three goals allowed in 44:17 Sunday as the Gators took a 19-5 victory. Reznick also finished with seven ground balls in the two games, good for second among American Athletic Conference players.
